Finally, anyone in the workforce, who is not highly computer literate is currently and in the future, at an extreme disadvantage. Many older people will just give up and go down the income ladder and have to just get by with a very low paying job or government assistance. Millions of workers in America will get hurt financially as they will be unable to adapt to the high tech world that we all live in. It is very scary to imagine what will happen with so many millions of workers who will be left at the curb with skills that will no longer be needed. Nothing is sacred today.
Working hard and being loyal to a company to only be tossed to the rubbish heap because of technology, will become the norm in corporate America. Factor in globalization overseas outsourcing and even professionals will feel the pain of becoming obsolete. The United States Federal Government is already stretched in the coming years because of an aging population that will need to go on Medicare and Social Security. Many elderly even before retirement age, will be forced into dropping out of the workforce, much earlier than envisioned. The recent great recession has already pushed many American’s to the brink and forced millions of workers into taking much lower paying jobs or multiple part time jobs just to have an income. The explosion of technology cannibalizing the American worker could be the final nail on the coffin.
