Maximon also called Rijlaj Mam, the great grandfather. This figure is the result of Christian religious syncretism with the indigenous Mayan spirituality-both in terms of good and evil.
The custody rotate annually.  The fourteen fraternities operate in the municipality, but the image is property known as Santa Cruz.

The Virgin is taken from Santiago de Atitlan church to the house of the brotherhood where Maximon is.
