Karuna-Shechen is a non-profit humanitarian organization founded by Matthieu Ricard, best-selling author, Buddhist monk, humanitarian, interpreter of the Daila Lama and a world-acclaimed photographer who has been living in the Himalayan region for four decades. Karuna-Shechen works with a network of local partners and volunteers to provide education, healthcare, and social services to the under-served populations.Their programs are developed in direct response to the needs and aspirations of the local communities we serve, respecting our beneficiaries’ unique cultural heritages. They pay special attention to the education and empowerment of women and girls. Since 2000, Karuna-Shechen has initiated and managed over 111 humanitarian projects in India, Nepal and Tibet with the conviction that no one should be denied vital educational and medical services because of their inability to afford them. Matthieu Ricard founded the organization with the inspiring ideal of “compassion in action.”
