YaoDongs (house cave) are largely found on the Loess Plateau in the northern part of China. Until now more than 40 million Northern Chinese people are living in such ancient and traditional architectures as their dwelling.

In Madam Wang’s village, only a handful of these cave houses remain intact, as most of the villagers chose to live in modern concrete houses.
