Documenting My Friend’s Breast Cancer Battle

I know Sonia since I was 15 years old. We attended high school together. Over the years we met regularly and sometimes we drank together.

The first time she told me she had cancer, we were both 30 years old and I was happy to see her well. Sonia was a hostess and I am a photographer. We used to see each other a couple of times a year.

Last year we were both here in Lecco and she invited me for coffee and asked me to document everything as her cancer had returned.

I started to cry.
Sonia said: “But…why are you crying, I have a beautiful wig, people cannot see I’m sick”

Sonia was sick, vomiting, and I had a problem documenting her suffering.

It has been a year since she convinced me to follow her journey. We see each other regularly, she doesn’t work. We decided that we will continue documenting for the next four years. This is our goal. Five years is a right time to get away from cancer, rebuild her life and our friendship.
