The artifacts in this series are not private objects, they are garbage: cast aside and shaped by the forces of man and nature. Separated from man by time and distance, these objects have persisted in their environment for days, months or years. The artifacts were collected by hand during numerous walking journeys. Effort was made to collect artifacts from every grid square of a street map of the city of Allentown, Pennsylvania. The objects original location is recorded on a street map of the city such that the viewer might be able to travel to a location and see where an object was retrieved. The objects comment on urban consumption, sanitation and homogeneity and contemplate the role of the individual city dweller in the creation of these artifacts. The objects and images suggest personal narratives and elucidate the physical realities of life and consumption in the urban environment.
