There had been a bike shop on these premises for over one-hundred years. It served generations of cyclists including myself when I was a teenager. You were greeted by the unmistakable smell of oil and rubber. Steeped in history it felt like an Aladdin’s cave of cycling treasure. Last summer, I documented the last few weeks of London’s bike shop ‘A Walklings’. Our high streets are changing and places like this are rare. For a nation of shopkeepers’ as Napoleon once described the British, “their loss seems even more poignant”.
