The photographs take place starting in 1959 when Pete was on a seven-month safari through Africa and continues on with photographs from 1960,1964, 1969, 1970,1974, 1984, and 1995.At the beginning of the book, there is a map that shows the areas he traveled in 1959. Some of the areas covered in the book include: Transkei region, South Africa, Swaziland, Lake Manyara, Tanganika (Tanzania), Valley of the Kings, Egypt, Ndebele, South Africa, Sossusveli, Namibia, Amboseli, Kenya, Egypt, Krueger Park, South Africa, Victoria Falls, Rhodesia (Zambia), South Africa, Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania, Khartoum, Sudan, Giza, Egypt, and the Nubian Desert, Sudan.
