My love for the minutiae in writing began during 2018, as I learned more about poetry and the variety of styles out there; it pointed me in the direction of meaningful but constrained expression. That year, and since then, I’ve worked tirelessly to hone my abilities to craft this type of poetry. There is still so much to learn from those more skilled! I felt very drawn to structured poetry, especially haiku.

Tiny, meaningful expressions became even more important to me last year. While I realized that I would continue to create this type of poetry as well as avidly seek out the work of others who write as I do, I wanted to do more. The idea for the online publication of The Short of It was born! Next, I set out on my mission to find writers and poets who were skilled in writing the most heartfelt words with great depths using the least amount of words. The goal was to showcase their work and give it some well-deserved attention. I hoped that all writers who enjoyed creating succinctly revealed depth, emotion, and meaning in 150 words or less in haiku, senryu, etheree, tetractys, kimo, cinquain, lanturne, paiku, rictameter, tanka – to name a few styles of poetry – or those who preferred writing stories – 6, 10, 100-word or 3 line pieces – would be interested in seeing their work featured and promoted in this publication.

I’ve had the pleasure of highlighting the work of 16 talented writers so far, and I look forward to presenting more to the WordPress community and beyond!

This new online literary magazine featuring the exclusive contributions of talented wordsmiths launched earlier this year. Susi Bocks created a place for micro-poets and writers to share their “short, sweet and to the point” poetry and writing. There they have the opportunity to showcase their work all year round. The features highlighted on the website and other social media platforms, currently publish every Friday. Next year, the goal is to produce a printed anthology of selected pieces published online this year.
