Don’t tell me
That a bribe is wrong
For a bribe is but a tithe.
You give me a little something
For you to get tomorrow blessing.
A bribe,especially
from a person of my tribe
Is a greeting in kind.
So don’t dare say
That a bribe is wrong.
A bribe can soothe my temper
And soften my attitudes
Toward you.
It can shrink multitudes
So that I may serve you.
A bribe is an incentive
For me to work hard
On getting you work.
Work hard to get me mine
So that you can get yours. Presumably.
How is a bribe incorrect
If it appreciates my effort?
The commission I should get
Gets taxed so much
I am in debt.
Correct me if I’m wrong
but don’t bribes save us time?
Cutting through long queues
To give people opportunities
And time is money we don’t lose.
Undeserving is a cruel word
that people connect to bribes.
Who gets what and how
Is the normal way of the jungle.
A bribe is but a tithe.
This poem discusses the aspect of bribery. In what appears to be an ode to bribery, the author defends the vice, highlighting what he perceives as being advantages brought forward by the act.
