Poem for a statue
Statue, you look at me
with your fools eyes,
that are no eyes.
Statue, your mouth swears
my imperfection
to tell the truth.
You suck me empty
you drain my power
you feed yourself
with my imagination
and leave me hollow.
The World Is Made Up Of Elements
The composition and structure in our world, both nature and society, is sculpted with words into philosophical essays and/or poetry, or shared by taking and posting analog or digital photos. Then also transformation into visual art stands central in my ‘practice’, with the creation of assemblages, collages, graphics and painting. The effect of juxtaposition of different materials is explored. and a simple suit of illusions will not be accepted.
Drager Meurtant (1951) is poet, former biomedical investigator (1979 – 2020) and visual artist since 2012. Mediums include photography, sculptures (most as assemblage), collages, graphics and painting. He often makes use of discarded material, and his art varies from abstract and surreal to primitive figurative. Images of these art-forms are often accompanied by short poetic, often ironic, texts.
The position of the artist as human in relation to society is often critically examined.
Attraction to work with other artists recently resulted in project (With)in or (With)out – Borders and Boundaries, with 18 artists and 5 authors from 10 countries, with exhibition in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, NL, in Summer 2023 and a book.
Member of the International Society of Collage and Assemblage, Sculpture Network and supporter of Fossil-free.
