Although I have worked in many genres, I’m primarily a fine art photographer. I’m inspired by the light & shadows that surround the “disappearing beauty of the tangible.” Yet, the photographic image itself acts as a symbol against transience.
I feel that “photography” is filled with ambiguity. It is not “reality” – it is, however, a “photographic reality” with a life of its own, filtered through the photographer’s subjective consciousness, but also, through those who view it.
My work is objective in the sense that a factual depiction of objects plays a vital part. Yet an image’s composition is of prime importance; it can make or break a photo. Also, the capture and control of the tonal qualities of light, cannot be overestimated. For me, mood, ambience and emotional impact are all essential; so, I make use of whatever image adjustments I feel are necessary to reveal those qualities, while remaining committed to the theme of the subject.
Photography, for me, is, above all, an expressive art form; a collaborative and vital balance between the frame of my camera and my creative objectives: the frame presenting the mirrored subject; the editing, a window into its meaning.
A good photograph has a visual resonance that is unforgettable. It enables you to SEE, more clearly, into your very humanity.
