Written by Denise Horbaly
brisk air blows
beckons a mid-day walk
where winter reveals herself
a lone wren delivers her song
scant foliage cannot mute
her determined, sharp trill
mushrooms still thrive
in these early, damp days
clinging to log hotels sleeping on the path
red berries alert
from beneath thorny branches
enjoy my beauty, but do not linger
water swims along the stream
conversing in gurgles and bubbles
jumping over mossy rocks
burrowed within an evergreen robe
wrapped in nature’s beauty
I am secure
each measured breath
sips of renewal
cleansing my soul
life is underfoot
gracious i am to witness
the energy of the forest.
