Who We Are
As Istanbul Candid Street Photographers, with the power we gain from the synergy that arises from our differences, we want to make our mark in world photography with the moments we capture from the colors, light, and melodic emotions of this geography, and to represent our country with the footprint we leave behind.
Our mission is to bring our country’s street photography to the international level and at the same time to become one of the reference points of street photography in Turkey.
Our approach to photography also reflects our view of life. Our approach to photography is based on the belief that the truth is too extraordinary, simple and complex to be fictionalized, and at the same time beautiful.
We are the runners of a never-ending marathon who have been loving and respecting each other for a long time, running after extraordinary moments in the chaos and unpredictability of the city, in the pursuit of extraordinary moments in mediocrity.
Gökhan Arer
I was born in 1970 in Istanbul. I started my photography journey in 2015 by attending a basic photography workshop. In the following years, I realized street photography.
I focused on photography genres called candid and juxtaposition on the streets. I photograph the momentary scenes with a humorous and thought-provoking approach of daily life that escape from our attention.
Taking photographs that do not contain any fiction in the natural flow of life and creating the perception of illusion by using perspective, makes me more passionate about photography.
As a photography enthusiast, I define photography as the most beautiful antidepressant hidden in the shutter button of the camera, the side effect of which is happiness, and with this philosophy, I both have fun myself while shooting and aim to entertain the viewers.
I manage photo walks and workshops for enthusiast street photographers from all over the world in the photographic holy lands of Istanbul.
