Collective’s Mission Statement
The Denver Street Photography Collective is a group of six Denver-based photographers dedicated to capturing the raw, unfiltered moments of daily life along the Front Range urban corridor. With a shared passion for storytelling, each member brings a unique perspective to their work, creating a diverse collection of images that showcase the energy and diversity of life around Denver and beyond. Through their lenses, they document the hustle of the streets, the quiet moments in bustling neighborhoods, and the profound human connections that define the region. Their work is a testament to the beauty found in the ordinary, highlighting the fleeting moments that often go unnoticed but shape the fabric of urban life. The collective’s mission is not just to photograph life as it happens, but to preserve the essence of a community constantly in motion.
Matthew Steaffens
Matthew Steaffens is a photographer based in Denver, Colorado (USA), whose contemporary practice explores themes of connection, relationship, and nostalgia. His images are rooted in the tradition of street photography and photojournalistic projects.
He became interested in street photography after visiting New Orleans in 2010, a complement to his commercial, portrait and wedding photography which began in 2008. As a photographer, Steaffens navigates the intersection of creativity and authenticity in urban landscapes. He aims to bridge the worlds of dynamic compositions and genuine moments, by creating visual narratives that reflect the pulse of everyday life. Through his lens, Steaffens invites viewers to engage with the subtle moments found in the ordinary that highlight the beauty inherent in the ebb and flow of human connections.
