You bring out my light and my dark,
my shadow and my bright warmth.

Anyone can see me passing,
like a flash of lightning,
but only you
can tempt me into staying
still for long enough
to truly be seen.

With you I allow myself to stay
and unfold like a sweetly blooming flower,
rather than dashing off
into the darkness,
a runaway rose,
a closed bud with the seductive scent
that promises a blossoming,
and gives nothing,
opens only to escape with the dawning of a new day.

No, for you I will let myself open,
day by day,
while dreams leak into my waking mind,
and the sweetness of the day moves into my dark dreams,
lightening them up with a touch of hope;
I will open up, though my fears beg me not to,
let my glorious petals unfold,
the delicate grace so long buried and enclosed within,
my worries and nightmares had enveloped me,
Those forgotten terrors faded away,
and simply the cocoon of desperate self-protection stayed.

And yet now, with pure love within my grasp,
my soul cries out: Open! Open!
my self is expanding to allow more layers to show,
and more layers still come undone beneath,
the cocoon shedding,
and the vulnerable petals weaving their magic
in the elegant shape of my true-blossomed form;
how can I settle my fears?
By opening further and raising my hopes
for peace and safety,
by allowing my open form to bask
in the love and magic that swirls around me,
in this microcosm of reality
that is my existence.
