Your Muse

Written by  Tansy Gunnar

I beg you, don’t fall in love with me.

You’ll fall to your knees,

Begging to spend your life with me.

Please…

Please…

Please…

Amusement at my expense,

You’re sure to have a pretense.

Fair warning…

My presence is overwhelming.

I’ve been known to collect followings.

Sweettalkers, gawkers, pretty guys

whose life missions are to annoy me.

Loyal ’til their time comes, when we all grieve.

A growing curse, since my rebirths.

I beg you please,

Please,

Please,

Don’t fall in love with me.

My intellect will intimidate.

It makes men shake, not just from lust…

But a deep distrust.

For they can’t comprehend,

Or contain,

So they try to restrain,

And retrain,

Slowly killing me.

I beg you, don’t fall in love with me.

Unbound and unwound,

I am the epicenter of chaos.

Wannabe suitors flock, to be tossed,

Into love spirals, where they prance.

Peacocks fighting for a chance,

In some ridiculous dance.

Desperately they hum along, to catch a glance.

I beg you, don’t fall in love with me.

Foolishness, but you’ll try…

To see if you’re that guy.

Think I lie…?

My mind and soul are too tempting,

To let slip by,

Without sounding your battle cry.

There’s but one pair of hands meant to grasp,

For I am their Muse,

And it will leave everyone confused.

Come find me in the fields of the forgotten,

Where loneliness roams.

We won’t dance,

Just a nod and a glance,

A silent stance,

Through the vast wasteland of grief.

I beg you, please don’t fall in love with me.

When all that shines is fire amongst ashes,

I’ll be waiting in the flames with my battle axes.

To fight the ones who kept us down,

And for the ones who already drowned.

Side by side, we’ll stand.

Shield, swords, axes,

Ready to kick some asses.

We’ll rise above the noise of the battles,

Nothing broken, rattles.

Darkness safely from afar,

Heart to heart.

I beg you, please

Please,

Please,

Don’t fall in love with me.

I fear we’d be happy for eternity.

Please,

Please,

Please,

Just let me be…

The miserable, feisty, little ol’ me.
