The Reflection on the Meaning of Life

“There is a Reason for Your Season” captures the ebbs and flows of life in a small rural community by following the villagers as they move in harmony with the seasons. It is the visual exploration of the deep connection between the people and the land they call home – a dialogue between humankind and nature. Daily routines, local folklore, and seasonal rituals are woven into the landscape and shaped by its natural rhythms. The seasons unfold from spring to summer to fall to winter. This is where nature and time work together.

Witnessing all those transitions and life’s gradual, peaceful cadence has taught me to accept the cycles of growth and decay. There is something deeply contemplative and humbling in observing the power of nature and time. Through this work, I reflect on the universal cycles that connect all living things.

The images were made over twenty years ago in Poland and revisited more recently. Time has allowed me to see them differently, through the lens of memory and lived experience.

The photographs were taken on analogue film, with digital files created by scanning prints, negatives, and slides. As a result, occasional grain or blur may be visible in some images.

Bio:

Katarzyna Zub was born in Poland and is now based in Canterbury, the United Kingdom. She is an artist working with photography and collage, exploring themes of time and our relationship to the world.

After completing an MA in philosophy, she shifted her focus to the visual arts. Her work brings together intuitive image-making and conceptual thinking, often focusing on memory and transformation. Through carefully constructed images, she explores how people connect to place and to the passage of time. This blend forms the foundation for her reflections on the world and our place within it.
