In a country like Iceland where the attention is on the vast views of the landscape, I decided to turn my attention to what is making up those views. The details in the textures of the rugged mountain trails, layers of glaciers showing thousands of years of history, the power of the water flowing over cliff edges forming huge waterfalls, and the contrast and depth of the black sand beaches.

This series brings your attention to the overlooked and unseen, yet pivotally important details.

Mark Kendrick’s photography is rooted in curiosity, observation, and a quiet desire to look again. First drawn to the camera as a companion on long countryside walks, he has developed a distinctive visual language that invites viewers to slow down and consider the familiar from an altered perspective.

From mainly capturing landscapes, nature and wildlife, Mark’s drive for photography led him into the world of portraiture- capturing school portraits to life as a cruise ship photographer which took him through a wide range of places and encounters, sharpening an eye for atmosphere, movement, and the fleeting character of experience.

Since 2020, Mark’s practice has become increasingly experimental, exploring abstraction and intentional camera movement as ways of translating place into feeling. His images balance control and chance, opening a space in which memory, motion, and imagination can quietly unfold.
