She wanted to be a man but living in a Muslim country with strong traditions make it so difficult. Wearing hijab in the society because everyone knows her as a woman.

 

 

I Was Taught To Be Ashamed Of My Sexuality

A project about Iranian homosexuals. Looking into how they were limited in their freedoms and what challenges they had living in a strict Muslim country.

 

Afshin lived for almost 30 years as a woman and then she decided to be what she is. He lives in Tehran at the moment with his partner.

 

Holia is an Iranian Homosexual and truly an amazing friend.  I took this portrait shot in my home studio in Karaj/ Iran. Holia now lives in America.
