This series focuses on the exploration of a relationship between grandmother and granddaughter, and what is lost within a generational gap. When the aggravation of family dynamics subsides, what is left at the foundation of any familial relationship? What can be learned? What can be gained?

Through this series, I photographed my Vovo – a sprightly 4’11 90-something Portuguese woman. Through broken English and kindred mementos, the process has allowed me to gain a better understanding of her life: her Christianity, a victim of domestic abuse, a loving mother, and an immigrant brought up on the idea of the American Dream.
