Since childhood I have had a strong attraction to shiny objects and reflective surfaces. As a daily street-based photographer, I am naturally drawn to these finds along my walks. I photograph what magic I sense is happening within a plane of glass, a pool of water or a piece of metal. The camera’s lens somehow records and fuses the intricate combination of the reflections, the surface plane and other interior content. The overlapping layers of shapes, textures and colors are not easily detectable at the time. From my initial visual perception and detection of something magical happening, followed by my digital enhancement of the image’s details, the full degree of illusion captured is ultimately revealed. The unpredictable and surreal results are mind challenging, which encourage an imaginative comprehension from the viewer. Such as, how the image was created and what is actually happening within it. I derive great satisfaction that my more perplexing images provoke this inner dialogue of thought, wonder and questioning. The title of this series is fitting as I discover my subject matter without any intentions. My final images are entrances into a stimulating and other worldly visual experience.

Gun Roze My street-based photography is my visual diary. The images record where I was, on which date and time, and what impressed me. I have no need to plan my shoots, nor do I analyze my subject matter. As a dedicated walker, all I require is to be present in my environment and openly observe its details. I photograph my finds freely and decide later whether I’ve captured something of value. My main concept is to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
