Decontextualized portraits of African women from the remote tribes of southern Angola, shot from behind: an intentional choice dictated by the desire to represent the harsh condition of women in patriarchal cultures that dominate their respective tribes, forcing them to endure injustice, violence, and abuse.
These are women who stand out for the great creativity of their hairstyles—among the most complex and beautiful in Africa. Yet even in this aesthetic expression, they conform to social, cultural, and spiritual conditioning that dictate and require precise symbolic representations.
Biography Born in Orvieto on February 15, 1964. Graduated in Economics and Commerce at Sapienza University of Rome (Italy). Currently lives in Lecce (Italy). She discovered her passion for photography as a child. Her photography is a travel report—an ethnic testimony to people’s habits and customs—which, in part, are being lost due to the contamination of the Western world. In particular, she loves to focus on portraits, especially spontaneous ones, which arise from casual encounters with people, trying to capture their beauty and emotions beyond simple appearance.
