As a married woman in the 1950s, my daily life revolves around managing our household and taking care of my family. My day typically starts early in the morning. I wake up before everyone else to prepare breakfast for my husband and children. Making sure everyone starts their day with a nutritious meal is important to me, so I spend time cooking and setting the table. Once breakfast is over and my husband leaves for work, I tidy up the kitchen and begin my other household chores.
Cleaning the house is a big part of my daily routine. I vacuum, dust, do the laundry, and make sure everything is in order. It’s important to me that our home is a clean and comfortable place for my family. I also need to do the grocery shopping, which means planning our meals for the week and making sure we have everything we need. Cooking dinner is another significant task; I like to have a home-cooked meal ready for when my husband comes home from work. I enjoy trying new recipes, but I mostly stick to traditional ones that I know my family loves.
Taking care of the children fills much of my day. Whether it’s feeding and bathing the younger ones or helping the older ones with their homework, I’m always busy. I want to ensure they grow up well-mannered and educated, so I spend a lot of time teaching them and playing with them. Creating a nurturing and supportive environment for them is my top priority. We spend time together reading, playing games, and sometimes we even bake cookies together.
In addition to my household duties, I’m involved in our community. I attend PTA meetings, participate in church groups, and am a member of the local garden club. These activities give me a chance to socialize with other women in the neighborhood and contribute to our community. I enjoy these gatherings because they provide a break from my daily routine and allow me to connect with others who share my interests.

Maintaining my appearance is also important. I take time each day to style my hair, apply makeup, and dress neatly. I believe it’s part of my responsibility to look presentable for my family and when I go out. My husband appreciates it, and it makes me feel good about myself too. In the evenings, after dinner, we often gather around the television to watch our favorite shows. It’s a time for us to relax and bond as a family.
While I sometimes wonder what it would be like to work outside the home, I know that my primary duty is to take care of my family. Some of my friends have jobs as teachers or nurses, but the majority of us are homemakers. My husband is the primary breadwinner, and his income supports our family. I manage our household budget and make sure our finances are in order, but major financial decisions are usually made by him.
Despite the challenges, I find fulfillment in my role. Taking care of my family and creating a happy home is rewarding. I know that my efforts contribute to the well-being and happiness of my loved ones, and that’s what matters most to me.

well: could have been my mum, writing about raising a family with 5 children, caring for a husband who worked too many hours, and had to cope with a depression. In a time that was under the pression of Atomic Bomb threats, the realization of what happened to Jewish people in WW-II and the hapy times in Disney World or other parcs..
