BEHIND THE CHUTE represents both the younger and older generation passing down the skills and trade of the modern-day cowboy and cowgirl and to show it is still thriving in the rural communities of Alabama.

ARTIST STATEMENT: I am a retired professional wedding and family portrait photographer. With the retirement of this profession, it allowed me more time to work on my own personal projects over the past four years with my photography. I grew up in the rural American South and have always been connected to the farming and agriculture lifestyle. When a friend invited me to attend one of her barrel races, I decided to bring my camera. It didn't take long for me to realize the power of not only having a connection to the rodeo industry but also a way to capture behind the scene details is something not everyone had access to. I wanted to use my access, vision and connections in hopes to share with others the rich traditions of the rodeo in the American South.
