My childhood is my village, my grandmother, and the Omelets she made. This Omelets from her furnace reminded me of a cloud. My grandma flew far away above the clouds and brought all her secret recipes with her. Now, nobody knows how to cook the Omelets, and now I’m searching for this secret from other grandmothers. The grandmothers who are still with us. At the same time, I am searching for other secrets that may be important for someone.
Olga Zaverzhenets is a visual artist working with photographic mediums. She was born in Belarus and now is based in Poland. Olga has been involved in photography since 2006. She works in classic and alternative techniques of hand printing, Olga shoots mainly in medium format. Olga’s works are represented at Aorta Social Gallery (Pisa, Italy) and are in private collections in Canada, Italy, Spain, Belgium, UK, Estonia, Russia, Belarus, Portugal. Photography for me is the way to show how I feel the reality and what is behind it. In my artworks, feelings are intertwined with what is visible to the human eye, and as a result, the obtained images are much closer to me. I capture the moments and collect my experience of living. From these series of photos, I create stories that describe the things that touch me. This is the power that holds me, the way to keep wondering and asking questions, searching for confidence, knowing in advance that exact answers are not available to anyone in this world. The only answers are new questions and hope. I work with analog photography, classical and alternative techniques of making the image, because they give me the feeling of being in the reality that I see and where it is important for me to be. My projects are about feelings, a sense of yourself, searching for answers and hope, about the experience of living grief and the ability to cope with trauma, and the opportunity to see light in the forest of pain. And of course, this is about the dream. These are the stories about the personal, but they can be close to many people. I don't know where this path will lead me, but I keep moving intuitively, believing that each step will bring me closer to the light.
