Sometimes blunt, often dark but always grounded in reality.

The absence of sound is really quite nice

on this overcast Saturday, the streets were mostly empty. absent was the whooshing sound of passing cars. absent was the sound of the neighbor’s kids playing in the driveway. absent were the sounds of woodland life in the still park across the street. and I was again a child of 5 or 6, sitting in the dining room on a summer morning drawing with my crayons as the sounds of the open window sat in the back of my head.

I have a lot of poetry written, somewhere around 20 chapbooks and two full-length collections still waiting to find a home. It’s not realistic for me to assume they will all eventually be published. Social media has always been a sore spot for me, and I recently ditched the few sites I was on and decided to create the blog to have a space to put all these poems. I can also use it for links to publications, podcasts and any other projects I may be working on. The best part is (for you the reader), it’s all free! While I do occasionally like to make a couple bucks from my work, not everything is about making money…a point the academic types might disagree on. Welcome to my depressed little world.

Ken Tomaro is the self-proclaimed poet laureate of the Cleveland sewer system who’s work reflects everyday blue-collar life with depression. His writing has been published in several journals, and he is the author of 4 full-length poetry collections as well as creator of the YouTube channel, Screaming Down the Poetic Highway.
