Marry a person you can sit beside, day after day, minute after minute, hour after hour—with nothing to do—and not want to strangle. Because one day, if you’re lucky, that’s exactly what it’ll be. Just the two of you. No distractions. No noise. No packed schedules or places to rush off to. Just you and him, in the same space, every single day.

And that’s where the real stuff lives. Not in the big moments, not in the fireworks. It lives in the waiting. In the doing nothing. In the stress and bills and figuring out what’s for dinner again. It lives in being each other’s only sounding board when things get hard, when the world feels too loud, or when you just need someone to sit with you while you fall apart.

It’s not just about boredom or silence—it’s about the misunderstandings. The tension that builds when there’s no one else around to absorb it. It’s about being the person who catches the brunt of their bad day, their frustration, their short fuse—simply because you’re there. Because you’re the closest. Because you’re the safest place to fall, even when the landing hurts.

And still, you stay. You talk through it. You learn each other’s edges. You figure out how to soften the blows and hold space for the mess. You learn how to be bored together, how to be angry together, how to be quiet together—and still choose each other.

That’s the kind of love that lasts. Not because it’s easy. But because it’s real. Because it’s built in the hard moments, the long days, the quiet hours. Because it survives the tension, the boredom, the misunderstandings—and somehow, still feels like home.

If you can survive that—being together 24/7, laughing through the tension, talking through the mess, and still want to be near each other—you’ve got something real. Something that doesn’t burn out when the spark fades. Something that doesn’t unravel when the days get long and uneventful. Something that stays.

I am thankful.
