I was born near Stuttgart, Germany, and earned an engineer’s degree in cartography in the late 1980s. For more than 20 years, I have lived and worked in Italy as an environmental researcher. As a photographer, I am strongly influenced by my background as a cartographer. I have a particular interest in color, geometry, texture, and spatial relationships, and I often seek out hidden patterns and contrasts in everyday scenes, capturing spontaneous moments and transforming them into compositions. I explore both natural forms and human-made structures, often highlighting the relationship between the two. I focus on composition and structure, rather than on a literal subject, to find beauty in unexpected places. The persons that occasionally find their way into the pictures rarely have a prominent role; they mostly insert themselves into the patterns of their surroundings.
