A woman showed up with a small bag at the front door of the family house in Lincoln, Nebraska. My great grandmother stared at the woman and said, “Why, I believe it’s Martha,” her sister who lived on a homestead in Wyoming. She had come with hard boiled eggs and dimes as gifts for her grandnieces—my mother and sisters, Judy and Leslie.
