Written by Timothy Horne

They fail when pain is too intense

For ears to really hear,

Or when love’s depth both dwarfs and mutes

them, e’en with those most dear,

Its with the latter I feel most defeated

For words feel imprecise,

too small, too stale, and too repeated

when “I love you” must suffice

As you hear that common phrase

Know that underneath

A whole life-store of remembered days

Are swirling just beneath

I look on you with joy and pain

Our time together’s brief

I know my loss is other’s gain

But leaving brings me grief

Fate has meant the miles between

Means moments shared are few

We think and pray, but all unseen,

and less than seeing you.
