As winter’s chill wraps the world in white,
And twinkling lights dance against the night,
Let’s pause in the rush, in the festive sway,
To ponder the heart of this sacred day.
In humble barns where the stars sang bright,
A gift was born to ignite hope’s light.
Amidst the carols and laughter that spread,
A child of promise, where love’s thread led.
Remember the joy wrapped in simple grace,
The warmth of a smile, a kindly embrace.
Let our hearts echo with peace, as we share,
The spirit of giving, a world laid bare.
So as Christmas approaches, in glitter and glow,
Let us seek the true meaning, let compassion flow.
For in every gesture, the spirit we find,
Is the love we extend to the hearts left behind.

I was reminded that it’s two (actual) weeks ’til Christmas. We should “pause,” then, to be reminded of the source of all the cultural stress. And maybe let go of that stress. And read your poem as part of that process.
