She sees me play
Still, she’ll say to me
What makes you happy?
Why can’t you sing
Don’t be such a child
Why can’t you put on a face
Like me
So young and yet so gray
I’m a liar
That’s what she claims
If I put my arms around the world
And hate it at the same time
It shows that I’m insane
How could I possibly…
Can’t I just…
Maybe a little…
Slicing with her eyes
I writhe in pain
It’s another thing
To change myself
Into the talker who must shut up
And listen to someone else
Even if the others talk
Isn’t so much
It doesn’t matter
When two parrots mimic their thoughts
To each other
Hoping to nudge the other
In a different direction
While each waits for their pigeons
To return with messages from abroad
I sleep next to someone who makes me
Want to hide
Claims I am the misfortune, the cause
Of our great divide
Despite each waking moment
Aching to see her breathe
Without the alcohol
And the stubborn make-believe
All the guilt turned viciously on me
The turning of the shoulder
The looking away
The stare that says
I have nothing more to say
And neither do you
These are the things I will remember
In the parting of ways
