Placeless Flags is a series that emerged from observing surfaces, shadows, colors, and fragments of light. Within these ordinary details, forms appeared that resembled unofficial, unclaimed flags, detached from any fixed identity. They arose naturally, shaped by material conditions rather than intention.

The images do not seek to represent anything specific. Their meaning remains open, guided by suggestion rather than definition. They evoke something familiar without naming it, as if each photograph reveals a structure that almost becomes a symbol yet resists becoming one.

Instead of pointing to a particular place, the series highlights how such motifs quietly repeat themselves across different environments. These formations suggest that symbolic forms may exist independently of geography, fluid visual languages that emerge anywhere and belong to no one.

Placeless Flags creates a space where recognition and uncertainty coexist. The images feel like flags of a place that does not exist or perhaps forms waiting to find their place through the gaze of the viewer.

Alkiviades Konstantopoulos is a Greek photographer who uses the urban environment as a field of observation and analysis.
