My Story: Exhale. Find Your Calm. Painterly photographs that explore hidden layers of reality, and make space for inner stillness, sanity and hope. I’ve always lived in big cities, drawn to their hum, the nearness of others, and the vibrancy of urban days. My home is full—three energetic boys, swirling routines, a husband that craves travel and adventure, and a career spanning business and art. While I love this richness, as an introvert I need solitude, peace, and structure—rare in a lively household. Sometimes my life feels like excerpts from the book by Allison Pearson, “I Don’t Know How She Does It”—a constant state of overwhelm, where every task feels urgent, driven by fear of forgetting, not finishing, or missing out. I’ve tried to do it all: every event, every new skill, every opportunity. The result? A little of everything, not enough of anything, and very little sleep. My family immigrated to Canada from a country marked by war and hardship. Growing up, I didn’t know any artists—everyone worked hard, often in labour jobs. Art was seen as a luxury, beautiful but impractical. So I seized every opportunity, as if it was our one chance. Motherhood brought joy, connection, and wonder, but also urgency and responsibility. Solitude and peace were rare. I feel nostalgia and regret for moments that slipped by, for stories I can’t quite remember. Photography is my exhale. On a photoshoot, I breathe out the noise and breathe in stillness—it’s the only time I don’t multitask. In the city, I seek calm: shimmering water, wind, resilient flora, lone figures, empty streets. Sometimes I travel beyond the city, drawn to wide open spaces and unbroken calm. Through my lens, I create a counterpoint to daily busyness—a visual invitation to pause, breathe, and notice overlooked details. There’s quiet solitude in my images, a longing for peace and structure that mirrors my inner world. Art is how I find calm, recharge, and make sense of a life in perpetual motion—a way to honour both chaos and stillness, and create space to simply breathe. Arist Statement: I long for a world that is idyllic. Seeking calm in the midst of a storm and dancing in the stillness of a moment suspended in time. Witnessing graceful, sensual curves and catching a glimpse of where the magical resides. Finding courage to be open and vulnerable, but also unbreakable. I want to linger for a bit on the edge of the impossible. For the greater part of my life, I have felt that accessing an enchanted vision of reality was an indulgence, a privilege, a lie, something I needed to earn the right to. I have discovered that for me it is in fact a necessity, a moment of respite, a source of inspiration and strength to confront the world. It helps me maintain a sense of calm, sanity and hope. Accessing this parallel world that is spectacular, serene and eternal, and uncovering its mysteries makes life feel bearable, worthwhile, divine.
