The setting for this series, shot in June of 2017, is the Whipple Company Store in Whipple, WV, originally owned by the coal company who ran the local mines which closed in the mid-1950’s. As with many other mining companies at the time, miners were paid only in company script and were forced to purchase all their goods in stores such as this. This company store is now a museum, and I was privileged to be given access to the attic, not usually given to visitors, where these shots were taken.
I am a photography hobbyist who lives in Philadelphia, PA. I began this hobby with the purchase of my first SLR in the late 1970’s. I take interest in capturing places and scenes that I respond to deeply, from natural scenes to urban ruins, in both rural and urban settings, shooting in color but sometimes editing in black and white when the image calls for it. I have a contemplative approach to my art (and to most things); my philosophy for photography is shoot a scene or subject of interest, and to use digital editing only to bring out what is actually in the original shot and sometimes as an aid to composition.

Very interesting photos. Thank you for sharing them.
The resolution and composition of these photographs are excellent. I admire this opportunity and tribute. More personally, I see your work covers places in my region. But I’d like to think that if I lived anywhere, I would enjoy your work. Because I do.
West Virginia coal town, old company store/museum as a backdrop for inherently creepy mannequins. Talk about setting a vibe. Wonderful stuff.
