Alison Cawley ARPS I am a UK based photographer living in the depths of the New Forest in rural England. What began as a hobby quickly became a passion and remains so to this day; first with film before embracing digital. When I began experimenting with digital IR very little was known about it, most people were, sensibly, channeling their energies into mastering digital cameras and Photoshop. Perseverance paid off and with it came a newfound freedom. I shot anything and everything using infra-red. Some ideas worked, many did not, but that is the joy of experimentation and my knowledge and understanding of “light” soared. I favor “high-key” with a lightness of touch yet retaining detail but ultimately subject matter and the light are the deciding factors. A body of work on the decline of the English Country House gradually evolved and it became my successful Associate submission to the Royal Photographic Society; a print panel, 15 photographs, presented as “miniatures”. Locations were many and varied ranging from National Trust properties to private back gardens! And several of the images - including “Paradise Lost” and “Steps” - enjoyed success in open competition.
