We trotted side by side. Lilith loved horses and I loved to be by her side.
“Do you think we will own our own horses some day?”
There was only one acceptable answer but I was afraid to give it. What was she really asking? She was imagining a future with me. She was thinking about a courtship, a wedding, a marriage. I was supposed to start that from my knee at a romantic dinner, not from horseback.
I gave my Palomino a kick. He broke into a gallop as I fearfully yelled over my shoulder, “If you can catch me!”
