Immersing oneself in the world of the circus means entering a realm where passion, discipline and solidarity shape every moment. Behind the big top, life is organized around rehearsals, preparations and the precision of each movement. Make-up becomes a ritual, the costume a second skin, and every exchanged glance speaks of deep complicity.
This photographic reportage invites you to discover the circus far from the spotlight: the backstage areas, the focus before the performance, the beauty of effort. It reveals the invisible work, the emotions, and the transmission of a living heritage.
Through these images, I sought to capture the human warmth and the poetry of everyday circus life: a world where creation is nourished as much by perseverance as by dreams.
BIO Charlotte Pierson Born in 1989 in Belgium, I live and work in Liège. Architect by profession, I have always been passionate about photography, both analogue and digital. This love of photography was passed on to me by my grandfather and then by my mother. Self-taught, and having trained alongside photographers through courses and workshops (Sandrine Lopez, Pierre Liebaert, Sébastien Van Malleghem…), I draw inspiration from different artistic disciplines such as painting, cinema and literature. Attentive to framing, colour, lines and perspectives, in both my architectural and photographic approaches, I place essential importance on encounters with others – humans, animals and nature – and strive to create images of profound and intimate authenticity. I am nourished by the work of photographers such as August Sander, Josef Koudelka, Alisa Resnik and Bruce Davidson, among others, whose images move me through their simplicity, their light, and above all the humanity they convey.
