Shanghai is one of the world’s truly epic megacities, a hive of activity and rapid change. As massive scale construction changes the face of the city, an uninhibited hunger for new technology and economic resourcefulness changes the way its people live. However it is the quiet, personal moments of daily life that really shape the culture and atmosphere of the city.

When I first arrived I was so intimidated by the scale of the buildings and the relentless traffic. But after a while I grew very accustomed to crossing those busy roads I took comfort from the constant activity, in the same way that the sound of the sea is relaxing even as it is crashing on the shore.
