Time to go

Time to dig

Past the rubble

Of dead statues

Past the end

Of all empire

What is the root

What is the cause

How ancient is this

How hollow am I

The sky of the skin

The film of the mind

The layers of dirt

I drive my hands through

Deeper deeper

Deeper still

I need to touch

I need to hold

I need to feel

The emptiness of memory

The silence of the mountain view

Golden

Luminous

Gone beyond

The walks with you in Paris

The nights with you in cheap rooms

The day I took your body to the fire

During the cool season

That morning

That change

It is not correct but it is right

This depth

This void

This journey far beneath
