Straight out the hood is a long-term documentary look at the dark and unseen side of the street, from rough areas to poor neighborhoods… These photographs have been present since the beginning, this project is the reason I started taking photos and is essentially my life’s work. I shoot the world as it is as nothing’s more interesting than reality.
In this series, I aim to take the viewer past the postcard shots or the street we actually see or know, deeper into the diverse and historically rich city. To show a glimpse of complexity and the lives of the people through equally complex and candid moments of daily lies that often raise more questions than provide obvious answers.
I always like to wander around different parts of cities from any country I can visit, find the contrast in how the people react to this environment, how the city and the inhabitants coexist in this controlled chaos, I photograph the truth and reality of the city sometimes with a poetic feeling.
