This series of work looks beyond the facade and into the more personal moments of a drag queen. What lies beyond the surface is where the truth is. Often this is the opposite to how we experience the public persona of drag queens. These moments aim to dispel some of the miss understood ideas of drag. To show more publicly the intimate side of this art form. For such a long time this practice has been hidden, performed in private places, and seen as taboo. In Melbourne, Australia people are having conversations and actively breaking down the barriers around our queer community and at last celebrating our differences. This series aims to build on this conversation.

Thank you to Bumpa Love for allowing me into her world, these photographs were shot a couple of years ago are part of an ongoing project. In 2023 Bumpa Love starred in RuPaul Drag Race Down Under 2023.

Sally is a photographer from Melbourne, Australia. She is endlessly curious about people from all walks of life. Her photographs attempt to invoke a sense of wonder for humanity. Each picture captures a moment in time and alludes to a bigger journey. With an ethos of honesty, she captures tender moments and offers a window to the other’s world, from the little things that reveal the fragility of the human condition to unexpected moments – they are offered up with care and a sense of compassion.

She likes to disappear into people's lives hoping to bring about a frozen moment that is not only timeless but tells a little about the person or place she is photographing.

Her approach and storytelling, composition and ideas has been influenced by 25 years’ experience as an Art Director and training as a Designer.

Sally considers it a great privilege to be invited into another’s personal space and is grateful every day for the trust of those she meets one-on-one - or on the street.

Sally’s work has been a finalist in international photography competitions and has been exhibited in Australia and overseas.
