I wear my skin like a shield, paper-thin,
As an Asian man in a world that doesn’t let me in.
Gay, and hiding from the storm inside,
Where love turned to anger, nowhere to hide.
Behind closed doors, the bruises lay,
Invisible to those who look away.
The words, the fists, the shattered night,
I carry it all, though I hold it tight.
My culture says silence, my heart says scream,
Caught between worlds, between nightmare and dream.
I’m supposed to be strong, to endure the pain,
But who am I, if I stay in the chain?
Love shouldn’t hurt, but it did every day,
A bond that’s twisted in a violent way.
But I found the strength, I found my voice,
To break from the shadows, to reclaim my choice.
For every bruise and tear I’ve survived,
I’ rose from the ashes, still alive.
An Asian gay man, stronger than they know,
I healed, I fought, and I’ll let my scars show
