Jerusalem, I sing to you now –
Song of longing, song of lament
Song of the ancestors yet to be born
Song of crucifixions of souls
Still being carried out now
in your holy
Name.
Jerusalem, I sing to you of
Justice gone awry, of
Sacred soil so sacrosanct,
Crystallized into coarse
unleavened bread that
crumbles and decays
without a breath
of fresher
Days
O Child of place,
O Place of fair face,
Oh Songs of despair
for a place that never was as
Dreams say you may have been
before the books were
Born.
Threshing floor,
Rock and dome
Home to no one –
Empty
Soul.
Abraham and David,
Saul and Mohammed too,
Jesus – did you truly
walk this sacred soil
long spoiled by un-needed
Sacrifices of
Blood and
Men?
Wo-man,
Mother
of us all,
Stand tall.
Lift your veil
and smile.
Reveal
The long-sought secret
As we frolic on the hill
And with the daffodils.
Jerusalem, I long for You –
the home I have yet to find,
the mystical morn
yet to be born.
