(Dedicated to the Texas flood victims.)
Lightening splits the dark night sky
the brilliance brighter even than bright
Purging the stars from children’s eyes
blinding them to their guiding light
Thunder bounces up above
strong waves of deafening sound
Heavens undulating cry
reverberating through Earths hungry ground
Rain falls in angled sheets
slicing leaves and tearing skin
Run and hide from Nature’s wrath
safe and warm with chosen kin
Without warning twisters form
whirlwinds drop from blackened clouds
Rivers once peaceful, placid and calm
spew deadly flood waters all around
Man is but a tiny spec
when Mother Nature’s wrath’s unleashed
Make not the same mistakes again
when next her fury is released
