Images & Text By Metin Arslan

Photography functions as a bridge between my inner vision and the visible world—a way to escape from the weight of the real, a practice to perceive time differently, a teacher to engage with details that often remain unseen, an actor of my inner world which comes alive with its own expression.

It is a tool for translating the unseen into the visible.

Metin Arslan

The psychological and philosophical realms that resist language often emerge through the creation of the images. It is an existential endeavor that questions ideas, confronts traumas, releases emotions, and seeks the liberation of the spirit.

My work often explores psychic conflict, the rupture of the self, and inner fractures carried by the subjects.

My photographic practice unfolds through two distinct yet interconnected approaches.

The first is rooted in how I began photography: with the attitude of an observer. Capturing without interruption. This part of my work remains faithful to the moment itself as well as the roots of the photography by avoiding staging or interference. Through this approach, I seek to witness the continuous flow of life and translate it through my own photographic perception.

The second approach evolved alongside my journey in filmmaking. Here, I work with staging and direction, guided by preconceived ideas that may later be shaped through post-photographic processes.

Rather than reshaping individual images extensively, I focus on constructing new meanings through the convergence of photographs. By bringing images together into sequences and series, I aim to create narratives that form a complete body of work.

Edge of Humanity Magazine

Presents

Photography & Philosophy

The freezing of a moment is a magical event.  Images can make us feel love, rage and every sensation in between.

Photographers, whether partial or impartial to their subject matter, consume a massive amount of insight.  Their participation cannot be substituted nor replicated. The moment is gone! The experiences will live in their minds and those encounters are immortalized in their photographs.

Edge of Humanity Magazine’s ‘Photography & Philosophy’ series will bring together the art and the mind of these fantastic creators.

If you would like to participate, please contact the editor jo@edgeofhumanity.com for more details.
