Artist Statement

Robert N. Clinton, known as CyberShutterbug on the internet, is an amateur photographer with 60 years of photographic experience.  He specializes in street photography and portraiture. He has homes in both Phoenix and Santa Fe. Currently, CyberShtterbug shoots exclusively in monochrome since he is a firm believer in famous aphorism of the late Elliot Erwitt, of blessed memory – “Color is descriptive. Black and white is interpretive.” He seeks to interpret and amplify the beauty in the people and the scenes of everyday life that he finds around him. CyberShutterbug regards himself as a humanistic photographer in the traditions of the great photographers he admires, including Henri Cartier-Bresson, Mary Ellen Mark, Brassai, Robert Doisneau, Gordon Parks, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Elliot Erwitt, and Vivian Maier. He also focuses on light and shadows like the great street photographer Fan Ho. He works in both film and digital mediums but since he believes it is the image, not the process, that is central to the photographic art, he chooses not to significantly identify the medium in which his work was created.
