Photographer Mario Cioni, contributor of this documentary photography to Edge of Humanity Magazine, presents work from the project Maramureș. His passion for photography began in the 1970s with a Canon FTb, a camera he still treasures. Early in his journey, his focus was on portraits and landscapes before his curiosity led him toward nature and travel photography.

Cioni expresses that beauty is something captured as it happens. His photography is guided by the desire to discover, to excite, and to share emotions through images that resonate beyond the moment they were taken. He views photography as a way of feeling, touching, and loving—an act that preserves emotion and memory forever.

His work reflects a fascination with wildlife and an appreciation for understanding the behavior of animal species. Through his travels, he captures not only wild animals but also local people, customs, and traditions, blending the human and natural worlds into a unified vision of exploration and empathy.
