Richard Murrey began painting and drawing during high school and continued his artistic education at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky, majoring in printmaking and astronomy. After college, he joined the graphics department at a local television station before being called by the Department of Defense to produce illustrations for military training manuals during the Vietnam conflict.

When that contract ended, Murrey traveled west, eventually settling in Bishop, California, where he worked for an architectural designer and a natural food provider. It was during this period that he began writing and performing his own songs while exhibiting his artwork, combining both passions to connect directly with audiences. After seven years in Bishop, he returned to Florida to freelance as an illustrator and graphic designer, collaborating with major agencies in Orlando and two national clip art suppliers.

Murrey’s freelance work led him to Disney World, where he contributed to concept development for EPCOT, followed by a position at Sea World promoting the first Baby Shamu. He later joined NASA as a graphic artist during the shuttle program, where he spent thirteen years creating visual material that supported one of America’s most iconic endeavors. Now retired, Richard Murrey continues to paint and produce art with enduring passion and creativity, remaining deeply engaged with his lifelong dedication to visual and musical expression.
